KCET 2024: Out-of-syllabus questions to be removed,Govt Cancelled KCET re-exam
The state government has choosen to assess the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) marks by excluding out-of-syllabus questions.
It has decided not to proceed with a re-examination and to eliminate out-of-syllabus questions from the assessment in response to student protests and the strain and stress of having to retake the exams.Early on Sunday night, a statement to the media stated, “Demands for providing grace marks/removing the questions for assessment, or reconducting the exam afresh, have also been made.”
In addition, the decision states that the KEA is instructed to eliminate questions from the assessments that are not part of the 2023–24 syllabus and evaluate only the remaining questions, “keeping in view the Expert Committee report and opinion of many stakeholders and the paramount interest of protecting the legitimate interests of the students in mind.”
In response to concerns regarding questions that were not included in the curriculum that appeared in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2024, the state government has instructed the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to eliminate those questions from the evaluation process and solely review the remaining questions.

As a result, 50 questions from the evaluation will no longer be included: physics (9), chemistry (25), mathematics (15), and biology (11). Additionally, two questions with wrong answers will receive grace points.
The committee found some questions from chapters that had been eliminated, but they also pointed out that some of the questions were in the syllabus and in the first PUC 2022–2023 chapter that the students had already studied the year before, thus they didn’t need to be removed.
To safeguard students’ interests, maintain fair competition, and preserve the credibility of the CET system, the government responded by ordering KEA to resolve certain questions that are not covered in the syllabus. As a result, in the assessment, KEA will exclude questions that are not covered in the curriculum and concentrate only on the remaining questions, which come from the following subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Principal Secretary of the Higher Education department Srikar MS clarified that the government has decided not to re-exam KCET 2024, citing the upcoming schedule of other significant exams, such as COMEDK, JEE Mains, NEET, NEST, CUET, and third attempt of second PUC exams in May and June. The government claims that conducting a re-exam would cause unnecessary panic and harassment to students for no fault of their own, in addition to delaying the academic calendar for professional courses.
